The Guitarró is an instrument used in Balearic traditional music. It’s an instrument with an small soundbox.

It was traditionally made by apprentices, since it was an instrument for pure accompaniment.

Nowadays thanks to the interest showed by the most representative interpreters of our country, the guitarró has gained recognition and it can be studied in the Conservatorio Superior de Música de las Islas Baleares (Balearic High Conservatory of Music).

Following this attempt of dignifying the instrument, in our workshop we build the concert guitarró. The process is completely handcraft, with warm glue, hand varnished with lacquer and with woods cut by my master more than 30 years ago.

Although this instrument professionals have their own favorite tuning, we will try to help the many amateurs that often ask us about the guitarró, its tuning and chords.

We thank the precious help from Juan Pastor. Professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Música.

In this section we show the different steps in the building process of a Majorcan guitarró.

1º/ Tops and Backs gluing system

2º/ Bending the Sides: The guitarró’s are made of cypress cut in 1972.

3º/ Preparing the back once braces and clamps are placed
